Huntingdon Life Sciences has been engaged in animal testing for a few decades now and has been repeatedly exposed in the media for their cruel treatment of animals. Were this really providing an advance in medical research, some might be tempted to give them a slack for it - but cosmetic products, fertilizers, dyes and artificial sweeteners hardly justify anything.

Spammers, phishers, DoS-ers… the dudes and dudettes that give spice to our online existence and always keep us on our toes. Every medium with its problems, naturally, and while completely removing one threat is unfeasible1, minimizing its impact is attainable.
By now, both UW-Madison and UW-Milwaukee have received letters from the RIAA and not forwarded them to the students. I got this tingling feeling when I was reading the latest article
about this - not all hope is lost. This is not about harbouring those that engage in copyright infringement at any rate, but by following due process when it comes to law. Which is something the RIAA has been permitted to more or less afford thus far because many people got scared when they were bullied.
I think the worst approach, however, is taken by those students that decide to go ahead and settle with the RIAA - this gives the multi-corporate an incentive to continue with their extortion of random individuals. Luckily, more and more people begin to understand what is going on and countering with their own offensive [check out my del.icio.us feed for a recent example.] Maybe soon enough somebody will really drag them through court and get this fixed once and for all. Then, maybe, some of those that have been bullied - have they not been forced to sign a waiver stating otherwise - can engage in a class action lawsuit against the RIAA and drill them back of at least twice the amount they’ve racketeered so far.
Or, sure, somebody could handle it differently…
I will begin listing here companies whose actions are questionable enough to warrant intervention by alternative methods. Use your imagination. By-and-large I feel that most of these companies are detrimental to our society in one way or another.

okay so taking that site down was quick, as less than 24 hours after the post the URL was unreachable… I also received a generic e-mail reply from spoof@ebay.com teaching me how to avoid getting duped by spoof e-mails… hello! what did i just do? :)
well in all fairness I think AoL conducted themselves well since it took them this short to attend to the matter… of course this isn’t the first or last phishing scam out there but… the fewer the better. I’m still very curious whether the WHOIS information - particularly the part pertaining to the name and personal details of the person to register ebaymain.com - is true… something tells me it probably isn’t but… who knows? it’d be hard to take appropriate legal action about this, anyhow…
