technology found: ooVoo

October 20th, 2007

This is more of a “what-if” post, because the technology is not yet fully available. ooVoo is a video conferencing platform. It boasts the usual multi-person chats, video mail etc and advertises a way to dynamically adjust video quality depending on network congestion. It would be interesting to test and play around with, but unfortunately, a Mac client is still in the works. Considering the blog hasn’t been updated in ages and the Windows client was out sometime in July, one has to wonder if anything is still happening behind the scenes or not. For now, this goes into the vapourware bin.

  • Hi, I write for ooVooworld which is an unofficial WOM world about ooVoo - so there is somewhere to go to find out news, reviews and opinions about it if you’re interested. No news on Mac capability but I know they’re prioritising it… there’s definitely lots going on behind the scenes with a massive takeup since July’s launch, which is why I think the Mac version is taking a while - they’re so busy!

  • well I hope they’ll come up with something soon. I’ve always been partial to iChat and a bit of the new Yahoo Messenger, so whether I do take ooVoo for a regular spin or not, I always welcome new technology in the arena. That said, I see some interesting things are being done with ooVoo already. More to come, hopefully soon enough.

  • inaequitas! Olly olly oxen free! Are you still excited about the Mac version? Well, you should check out http://oovoomac.smnr.us — hopefully it will give you the kind of Mac ooVoo experience — the only thing I want in return is a fancy-good review. Anyway, I am here on behalf of ooVoo, so please let me know if there is anything we and I can do for you.

  • A review is in order, yes, but so far the application does not work whatsoever on my machine. I’ve submitted a bug report, so if things get fixed I will play with it some more.

  • Sorry it has taken a while to get back here, Inaequitas, but I really want you to sort this out so please send me all the problems you have directly to my email address, cabraham@abrahamharrison.com, and I will take care of finding out your answer — cool?
