the matrix 2.0 - trapped in the web

August 1st, 2007

Excellent piece I found about the dangers of the Internet social revolution and the willingness with which people doc drop themselves. I’ve previously mentioned Steve Rambam’s talk on the topic and probably made my position pretty clear, but the linked articled does give you the brief run on how you can collect quite a bit of information about someone with a simple Google search and just by knowing where the ‘hot places’ are [a.k.a. Facebook, mySpace etc]

After one has collected all this information, there are multiple scenarios which they could use. Befriending to con, tracking activity to stage ‘chance encounters’, tracking activity to otherwise defraud, pointers on identity theft etc. The more dangerous aspect is that we have an entire generation coming up without any sense of fear about these things.
